"It's time to ground Air Claire..."

Thursday evening Congressman Todd Akin addressed a full house at a local FairTaxKC meeting.

Congressman Todd Akin spoke and answered questions from the audience in an engaging manner for well over 2 hours and, I must admit, I was impressed.

Understanding that in order to be successful, most all politicians are "likable" and, even when most of their constituents disagree with them politically, they can win their elections handily when they have a big "likability factor." Congressman Akin DOES possess likability in spades, however it was the way in which he engaged his audience in answering questions last night that was compelling. I found him to be quite... well, normal. Having been in politics for many years, I suppose the Congressman could be just that good, or maybe I'm off my game, but I didn't sense much in the way of spin from him. As of right now, I believe him to be the genuine article; chock full of common sense. I think that if he can get his name out there sufficiently, he can beat Claire McCaskill who, as we all know, is the prima ballerina when it comes to spin.

Akin took his time to make sure each question was answered fully and to the satisfaction of the questioner. Not sidestepping controversy, the Congressman even included in his remarks at the beginning of the Q&A session an acknowledgment that some in the tea party movement are upset with a recent budget deal on which he voted "yes". He brought it up and when the subject was asked about by an audience member, Congressman Akin explained his reasoning that it contained important defense spending, that in his opinion shutting down the government at this time would result in chaos, and with the debt ceiling battle looming on the horizon it's important to have additional leverage in order to demand something big, like the repeal of Obamacare, in exchange. I found myself understanding his reasoning and, furthermore, agreeing with him.

Speaking of Obamacare, I learned something last night I had not yet heard about. Congressman Akin explained that recently discovered within the law is a self-funding mechanism. This means that Congress simply de-funding the law woudn't be enough. The self-funding mechanism itself must be gutted, the law repealed entirely OR be found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court (that last one sounds pretty good). The thing just becomes more monstrous as time goes on, doesn't it?

Currently, Akin is serving on the Armed Services Committee and is Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee. Other duties include both the Science and Space Technology and Budget Committees. When speaking about the Budget Committee, he stated last night that recent activities have been extremely interesting and he is pleased to have so many new colleagues in the House who are willing to make big cuts and hard decisions. Whether it works out that way remains to be seen, of course.

An avowed Christian, Akin is a five term Congressman and sports a very conservative v oting record. He related stories about the financial crisis, Paul Volker, and personal phone calls from President Bush and Karl Rove made to apply pressure during the TARP vote and related his resistance to that pressure. Not an easy thing to do, I'm sure! Congressman Akin has consistently voted "no" on every bailout, stimulus plan, handout and other dangerous pieces of legislation such as the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill.

The Missouri Democrat Party must be quite concerned over Todd Akin exploring the possibility of a Senate run. They sent a young male staffer to record his comments last night.

Naturally, plenty of concern was voiced by those in attendance about the nation's economic and financial future and Congressman Akin echoed those concerns explaining in detail how entitlement spending at $2.2 trillion now equals federal revenues and the looming financial disaster caused by decades of ever expanding entitlement programs and liberalism.

Congressman Akin has not yet formally declared his intention to run against Senator Claire McCaskill, but I hope he does. So far, only former Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman and Ed Martin, who served as chief of staff for Gov. Matt Blunt, have declared their intentions for the 2012 Senate race.

May the most liberty-minded, fiscally conservative candidate win.

Redistricting Reprieve

Legislature recesses with no map voted on

Well, it looks like the Missouri legislature will go home for a the long weekend without having voted on a map for redistricting. A map needed to be voted on by today in order to have time to override any gubernatorial veto in this session. Now, if Governor Nixon eventually vetos a map, the legislature will have to wait until September to attempt an override. It's both good and bad that this happened. It does give us more time to email and call our reps and tell them which horse to get on, but increases the likelihood that the whole mess will end up in court, which is costly and who knows what the outcome could be?

The problem seems to be centered on the counties around the St. Louis area, and while those are super important, too, the counties around Kansas City deserve equal attention and not just gerrymandering to protect Cleaver and, frankly, some GOP interests in the area. Why the Republicans are protecting Cleaver is beyond me. I've tried to understand it, but with the country and our own area trending more to the right, how this congressional seat can be handed over to the Democrats in this fashion is baffling.

The hardest left liberals and Progressives of the Democrat party would go for the throat if redistricting were left up to them. I wonder how much their map would look like the hunk of junk being proposed right now?

Why are supposedly conservative Republicans acting like this? Who gains what if this map is adopted? Think about that and give your state reps a jingle or shoot an email over the weekend.

SB113 Goes to Nixon's Desk

And the forces of evil buy radio time in response

The legislature did vote positively on SB113. This is the bill to fix the horrid Prop B "puppy mill" scam perpetrated on the citizens of Missouri last fall. I congratulate the legislature on this decision, though both my rep and my senator totally blew it on this vote. Thanks, guys. Alas, it passed without them, thank God.

Now, the lefties are trying to get Governor Nixon to veto it. You may have heard some of their radio advertising accusing the legislature of overturning a vote of the people. SB113 does NOT overturn a vote of the people. It turns Prop B into something a heck of a lot closer to what the people of Missouri thought they were voting on and does much to negate the scam and lessen the impact of wacko groups like the HSUS.

I know I'm asking a lot today, but please take a minute and give the Governor's office a shout and let him know he needs to sign off on SB113. Be polite, please, as the folks answering the phone are also dealing with some terrifically rude animal rights leftists right now as well. Thanks!

KC Flash Mob Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is the big day for bringing non-perishable food and gift cards to help Marine families in need.

Someone emailed that they thought this was a great addition to their Easter celebration this weekend. I hadn't thought of it that way, but I agree!

There will be a classroom area available so being out in the cool morning air isn't a big problem. I'll be on site by 10:00 so come on out and support some military members who are having a tough time.

Our Future Voice In Congress On The Line Right Now!

Jacob Turk has been our man on the scene where the redistricting mess is concerned. Many of the links below go to his campaign site where he has been making periodic blog entries to keep us up-to-date with what has been happening. Thank you, Jacob! I doubt very many of us would know half of what we do about this without you!

The atrocious Congressional redistricting maps proposed by our Republican leadership in Jeff City are now being manipulated in a conference committee to iron out their differences. With no KC area State Representatives and 3 of the 5 State Rep committee members from the St. Louis area, it does not bode well for conservatives in Jackson County. Our only hope is to get your State Senator and State Rep to vote against the splitting of Jackson County between the 5th and 6th Districts which is nothing more than a Cleaver Protection Plan mandated from DC.

Call them now and let them know you will remember their vote on Congressional redistricting come the Republican primaries in 2012. Tell your State Senator and Rep they must vote 'No!' to splitting Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, and Independence to win your support for 2012.

At this point, our best outcome is Missouri Congressional redistricting gets thrown to the Federal courts with no map. It is our only hope for a fair, competitive map for all Missourians.

You must call now! We've received word that they may vote late tonight, 4/21, or early tomorrow!

Akin vs McCaskill???

Senator McCaskill's rubber stamp has worn thin.

Congressman Todd Akin, 2nd District Missouri, is currently considering taking on Senator Clair McCaskill in the 2012 election.

I don't know much about Congressman Akin, so I'm not ready to give him glowing praise just yet, but he is a co-sponsor of Senate Bill S13, the FairTax Bill. I am looking forward to hearing him speak.

With all the hype surrounding the GOP's field (or lack thereof) for the White House run, those considering down ballot elections are wise to get an early start. Claire is a darling of the Democrat Party and Congressman Akin will have his work cut out for him should he choose to run, but as long as Claire continues to open her mouth on the public airwaves his job should get a lot easier. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has released a scathing video related to the Senator's air transportation fiasco.

There are currently about 35 Marine families in need. You don't need to bring a ton of groceries to participate (though if you want to, that's great!) even a few cans or small grocery store gift card is enough. We're doing this to show support for our hard-working Marines and their families.

It's NOT About Puppies...

I know you're sick of hearing about "the puppy mill thing," but it's important, so please bear with me. We can still fix this, but we need a little help.

If you were reading FTP and other publications like it during last fall's election season, you're aware of the deceptive tactics used by the Human Society of the United States in the promotion and eventual passage of Prop B aka the "puppy mill bill." For those who missed our reports I'll include additional information on the HSUS below. Just for the record, I myself nor anyone associated with FTP, supports "puppy mills." It is an abhorrent practice that is an embarrassment to our beautiful state. However, any and all laws pertaining to animal enterprises need to be fair, equitable, and without interferance from any special interest group. Anything less is an even bigger embarrassment.

Missouri District 28 State Senator Mike Parson introduced SB113 which modifies the Animal Care Facilities Act and the Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act in an effort to provide some amount of protection for good breeders, farmers and others in agricultural and animal based businesses that the groundwork laid by Prop B can be used to disrupt or destroy. Thankfully, this bill HAS passed the Senate and is now in the House.

Unfortunately, some of our well-intentioned legislators have

failed to understand the true purpose and meaning of the original Prop B initiative
caving in to pressure being applied by the HSUS, the president of which, Wayne Pacelle, visited Jefferson City several times during this session in an attempt to apply that pressure personally OR
are concerned about media and public backlash.

Conversations with various legislators have led myself and other contributors to understand that our representatives are very concerned with being seen as going against the will of the people in changing or overturning the law. The concern seems to revolve primarily around how the media will report on the action. It's a legitimate concern given the state of our media. However, having the political backbone to do the right thing regardless of the personal fallout is, I believe, what people in this country are looking for in their leadership. We at FTP step out and proclaim our beliefs frequently and we take flak from the readership at times, but we don't stand down when we think we're right and neither should our representatives.

When courts overturn ballot box results it is widley considered judicial activism and is generally frowned upon by conservatives. Rightly so. The same bad taste can happen when state legislatures attempt the same type of action. However there is a sound argument that by identifying problems and seeking legal and often material remedies, legislatures are activist by their very nature. Therefore, when a legislature attempts to overturn or alter voter approved statutes because deception or fraud is suspected it is a correct action. A very correct action. It is my opinion that when any special interest group, no matter their ideology, launches a campaign to create changes in Missouri law and uses deceptive or fraudulent tactics to gain victory, it is not just the right of the legislature, it is their duty to take remedial action.

Show Me The Money

Originally Prop B, the poorly named Puppy Mill Prevention and Cruelty Act, did not call for any funding from the state. Ask yourself what the purpose of such a law could be when there is not one thin dime provided for enforcement? How does that work exactly? Is there something else intended? Introduced by District 85 Representative Cloria Brown, HB 746 calls for the inclusion of a check off box on tax forms and the ability to send additional funds via check for specific use to fund the law's provisions. Prop B did not call for funding on its own, but the inclusion on this companion legislation could potentially raise the funds needed to harrass breeders both good AND bad.

How YOU can help!

SB113 has already passed the Senate, though the emergency clause failed, and is now moving into the House for consideration. I was told late last week that the House may not have the votes for passage of SB 113. Why? Because they haven't heard much about this side of the issue from voters.

We MUST change that this week.

Please contact the Representatives as soon as possible. The session resumes today, Monday 3/28. If possible, contacting multiple Reps, especially those in urban areas, is crucial and especially helpful.

Use the poll , no matter your opinion. A letter is being drafted stating opposition to the original wording and intent of Prop B, the furure use of Prop B as a springboard to regulate other animal enterprises, the HSUS using Missouri's ballot initiative process in a blatant attempt to disrupt and destroy Missouri agriculture based business, and stressing support of SB113. These poll results will be included. If you wish to submit testimony to be included with the letter, please email it to us ASAP or use the provided text box in the poll itself.

What's so bad about the HSUS?

This is NOT the Humane Society running your local animal shelter! As you will see in the video in the sidebar, the HSUS does not run ANY shelters themselves at all and, in fact, sends less that 1% of all those millions they've raised with their designed-to-guilt-trip commercials is actually sent to shelters! So much for being dog's best friend!

The Humane Society of the United States is a far-left special interest group hell bent on their vision of making each and every one of us a vegan. Don't believe it? Virtually ALL of the top leadership in the HSUS came from PETA.

Recently, MoFed sent this letter to their membership and associates to keep them up to date with Prop B. Included with the letter were documents designed to allow breeders and other animal enterprise owners to help in this fight. They are quite instructive and I encourage you to read them and forward the information on to anyone you know that has an animal enterprise.

Affidavit requesting that the USDA reverse its decision or be enjoined from releasing private financial, personal, privledged information about animal enterprises to the HSUS.

Did you realize how narrow the margin was for Prop B passage?

Prop B passed with only 51.6% of the vote. If only we'd had another week of getting the word out, the HSUS would have been shown the door in Missouri!

Naturally, FTP has something to say about it. We'd like to take a moment to introduce you to our picks. This document gives good reasons as to why David Cox, Timothy Thompson, and Chris Seufert should be elected to the Park Hill School Board.

Each one of these gentlemen wants to make a difference in our world and the education of our children is a wonderful place to start. Each belive that fiscal responsibility is of the utmost importance and that the single most important item for the academic achievement of our children is attracting and retaining top quality teachers. This seems to be in direct opposition to current leadership who apparently think that spending millions of extra tax dollars on having the "greenest" possible elemenary school is a top priority.

If you live in the Park Hill School District, please consider voting for these three candidates on April 5th.

KC City Council Race

Well, it's here.

Tuesday, March 22 is the day that Kansas City decides it's fate. With so many elections on the slate this spring it has been extremely difficult to keep up with what is happening in so many races, however Nancy Kraus Womack, a regular contributer to FTP, has submitted her picks for your perusal.

Once again, we have judges on a ballot and no reliable way to evaluate them that we can find. If anyone has any idea on how to find good information on municipal court judges please let us know.

By the way, the mayoral race appears to all of us to pretty much to be liberal vs. liberal. There really isn't a hair's worth of difference between Burke and James, though Burke DID make the Green Dragon forum..

I listened to these candidates recently at a forum sponsored by the Green Dragon Conservatives. Please visit their site for videos of the all the candidates answering questions. The incumbent council members were smug and condescending and had NO IDEA'S. The candidates above, are all fresh, energetic and not professional politicians. I don't necessarily agree with all their positions, but they all CARE about their constituents in their Districts.

A note on the incumbent, Russ Johnson, District 2---I received a perky letter on City Hall letter head at taxpayers expense, singing his own praises about all the projects he had gotten through for the Northland. Legal or not, it is BLATANT ABUSE OF THE TAXPAYERS MONEY to send out that letter a WEEK before the March 22 election.

Missouri Redistricting Hearings Move Forward

The Congressional Redistricting Committee hearing from the Missouri House this past Tuesday night saw over 90 patriots leaving work early and fighting traffic to get there in time. Everyone deserves thanks for participating including all the committee members, many who came from far away. Folks came to participate from Kansas City south and north of the river, Lee's Summit, Grain Valley, Grandview, Independence, Lone Jack, Blue Springs, Raytown, and Greenwood. Cass, Clay, Lafayette and Johnson counties were well represented. The audience was enthusiastic and those giving testimony well prepared and cogent. Well over 30 testified.

Overwhelmingly, the sentiment was to have all of Jackson County in the 5th instead of divided into 2 or 3 Congressional Districts. There were only 4 dissenters from Jackson and even they weren't so much opposed to having Jackson together as wanting to keep Sam Graves as their rep – can't blame them, he is a good one. Several Graves constituents from both Jackson and Clay counties and several Hartzler constituents in both Jackson and Cass who made the case for having all of Jackson in the 5th even though some of those in Jackson and Clay risk having Cleaver as their Representative if the 2012 elections don't go as preferred. Remember, ALL districts in Missouri are undergoing a great deal of change in their boundries.

Our last issue about the redistricting hearings has lead some of you to write back asking for additional info and to give your opinions on the matter. Some Northland residents have submitted to us complaints that they do not under any circumstances want to be part of the 5th district. This may be a completely understandable viscerial reaction to Emmanual Cleaver, but please note that while the proposed redraw involving only southern Clay county (and all of Jackson) would still lean Democrat, if this proposal is the one ultimately adopted the 5th could conceivably shift to more conservative representation as early as 2012. It's also very important to note that the redraw doesn't take effect until January of 2013, so Cleaver, or another like him, may not even need to be endured by Northlanders. It will take work on all our parts to make that happen, but a conservative held 5th would be good for Kansas City, the state of Missouri and our nation as a whole.

Please check out what is currently on the drawing board. This link includes a stark visual representation of what we are trying so hard to keep from happening. It creates an even stronger 5th district for liberals by cherry picking half of Clay AND extreme southern Platte counties. Does this look like a workable situation to you?

The reality is no matter what district you would end up in, having a super safe Cleaver district affects everyone because he will be working and voting on legislation that affects all patriots. We have to realize this isn't about what district our own home is in, this is about what is in the best interest of our nation for the next decade and having Cleaver, whether he politically survives or not, in a super safe district where he can continue to ignore almost all his constituents is not it.

Rural vs. Urban: Different needs, different districts

The folks from Lafayette, Cass, and Johnson made compelling cases for why their rural counties should not be paired with the urban, suburban, and industrial dominated Jackson County in the 5th. They have a point and, by doing so, they also made the case why Jackson is different from almost every single county that makes up the 4th and 6th Districts. The only one which is similar is Clay which is why many, many of those testifying all of Jackson County belongs in the 5th also testified that the best pairing for the last ~76k citizens needed to complete the 5th District would be as many of the areas of Kansas City north of river starting from the south end of Clay County and moving north as far as needed to include the approximately 76k residents needed.

Having all of Jackson and part of Clay in the 5th would not change the 5th District politically; it would still lean Democrat. What it does do is ensure that any incumbent who gets too far from what the people want, (think Ike Skelton and Dennis Moore), or when the seat becomes open sometime in the next 10 years there is a fighting chance for the district to go Republican.

Politics... as usual

It is the people who put the Republicans overwhelmingly in charge of the Missouri State House and State Senate. The political class, including some within our Republican Congressional delegation, want to 'cut a deal' in giving Cleaver a challenger proof district and draw a district that does not make sense geographically or with Communities of Interest. As one young tea party patriot testified, 'Elections have consequences'. We did not work so hard and long so the folks we sent to DC or Jefferson City would protect Cleaver. The arguments for doing so sound good but are just words and do not hold water. The powerful are doing horse trading at our expense and will use any argument however thin to build their case.

Why would any of our Republican Congressmen or Congresswomen agree to give away the 5th District forever to a voice for every Progressive issue they purport to oppose – Obamacare, deficit spending, debt for our grandkids, government picking winners and losers, taxpayer funded abortion, and any number of other issues? Why? Ask your Representatives and encourage them to stand up for what is right. There are some who already agree while others are fighting tooth and nail to protect Cleaver.

It is time for all Patriots across the state of Missouri to lend aid.

If you know folks both locally and across the state, we need them to testify when the committees are in their area. Please forward this email or ask them to logon to www.firsttuesdaypress.com to find location information and the details on redistricting they need to know. In addition to any arguments they make for their own districts, they need to mention making Jackson County whole. If they cannot make a hearing we need them to email their own State Senator and State Representative. Emailing the committee members would not be a bad idea either. Links provided below.

When these committees start hearing about Jackson County wherever they go they will know the Tea Party and the conservative ascendancy wasn't just about elections, it is about what happens between elections. Because it is once a decade and the results filter through all levels of representation, Congressional redistricting is the single most important consequence of the 2010 elections. Redistricting is moving at a lightning pace and there is only two weeks left to make our voices heard.

Now is the time to get involved or the political class jams Cleaver and his fellow Progressives down our throats for at least the next 10 years.

Looking at the current proposal (Cook Political link above), keep in mind eastern Jackson could go to either Vicky or Sam. They are good people so please encourage both of them in a friendly way to do the right thing. Vicky's district is already super safe Republican and Sam's will get closer to that level as he picks up the north eastern tier of Missouri and if the southern portion of Clay is moved to the 5th.

Don't let any Dems fool you. It is not gerrymandering - there just are not enough Democrat votes in the middle of Missouri to get anywhere close to a competitive district for either the 4th or 6th so keep in touch with both Vicky and Sam on a regular basis to help them stay in touch. Sam works hard to do so and Vicky impressively hit the ground running to make that happen. If you can't have a competitive district the next best thing is a Representative who really listens. Let them hear you on bringing Jackson County together into the 5th where it geographically and culturally belongs.

Redistricting Battle Heats Up

Your input is CRUCIAL.

Our MO elected representatives are moving lightning fast to redraw the Congressional District lines. So: WE MUST MOVE FAST if we want to have any influence on the outcome. Redistricting will affect YOUR representation in DC (and the direction of our country) for at least the next ten years.

Affected MO counties include Jackson, Cass, Clay, Ray, Lafeyette, and Platte.

There will be only 2 hearings in KC to weigh in on the redistricting decisions. That is it.

Why is this happening and what does it mean?

Detailed census data has just been released and the Missouri State House and Senate Congressional Redistricting committees have started their public hearings, with the above mentioned 2 are the ONLY ones scheduled for the greater KC area. Missouri must go from 9 congressional districts down to 8, so the lines for the 4^th, 5^th, and 6^th congressional districts all must be redrawn to add about 100,000 citizens to each of them (the goal of redistricting is for each to be approx. 750k citizens).

Do you want MO's 5^th Congressional District to be a “safe” district, again, for Cleaver and the Democrats, or do you want it to be drawn more competitively so we – the people – can vote in our choice instead of it being a “shoe in” for whoever the Democratic candidate is? We either move strongly and loudly to be involved or the political class will have their way. And politicians win instead of the people. Again.

We need every one of you to turn out and whoever is willing to make a public statement to testify to keep that from happening! It's easier and more impactful than you think!

Why? If the politicians draw the lines without citizen input, you can guarantee they'll draw the 4^th & 6^th as super strong Republican districts and “give” the 5^th the the Democrats. Do we want that? NO! There are ways to keep the 4^th and 6^th Republican leaning while making the 5^th more competitive. We say in 2010 that the 5^th is so far skewed to Dem (64%!) that this is our chance to make it more balanced so a good candidate can be chosen by the people instead of predetermined by the political parties.

What should you advocate? Here are some ideas that will make the 5^th more balanced while keeping the 4^th and 6^th Republican districts:

1. The Committees on Redistricting are supportive of keeping “Communities Of Interest” (COI's) together. COI's are not only based on race or ethnicity, they can also be cities, school districts, neighborhoods, even churches. If you know of a COI that is currently divided by Congressional districts (like Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Lakewood, Oak Grove, or cetain school districts, etc.), you can testify that you think it should be reunited instead of split up between congressional districts. If a community is united, it has a voice with its representative. If it is divided, its voice is diluted and that is not fair representation.

2. The committee favors keeping counties intact rather than split between congressional districts. So, you could suggest that all of Jackson County to be put back together into the 5^th district. (In 2000 the Democrats split Jackson it into 3 Congressional Districts to make the 5^th a safe Democrat district and boy did it work!). Uniting Jackson County into the 5th Congressional District would bring school districts, fire districts, in fact, any political subdivision within Jackson County back together with one Representative.

3. Since Jackson County has only 674K residents, ~76K more citizens will have to be added from surrounding counties to get it to 750k. The other counties are Clay, Ray, Lafeyette, and Johnson. The populations of those counties are:

Clay - 222K
Ray - 25K
Lafeyette - 33K
Johnson – 53K

So, one scenario to propose could be: Jackson + Johnson + most of Lafeyette or Jackson + Johnson + most of Ray

This solution(s) have the smallest possible county splitting with the least disruption for the affected county as the area divided will be rural rather than urban or suburban. Only the rural northern portion of Ray or the eastern rural portion of Lafeyette would have to be in a separate District keeping all Metro area counties intact.

Scenario 2 to propose: Jackson + portions of Clay

This scenario unites Jackson but splits Clay to achieve uniting KCMO as one COI. It makes the second most competitive Democratic leaning District we can have in this area with the same benefits as Scenario 1.

Either scenario keeps the surrounding 4th and 6th Districts strongly Republican while making the 5^th a competitive District.

Now is our time! THIS is every bit as important as any efforts we will make in elections for the next 10 years. The redistricting will essentially determine whether there is even any point to have a Congressional election or if the Representative for the 5th district will simply be Cleaver (or his appointed Democratic successor) by acclamation. Why should they simply be handed this seat?

Ah, those February elections! Abysmal weather, lack of notice, practically zero meaningful news coverage all coming together to produce fantastically low voter turnouts! What's not to love?

R-7 School District Tax Increase - Feb. 8, 2011

Those of us living in the Lee's Summit Reorganized School District No. 7, affecting parts of Jackson and Cass counties, should carefully consider the proposed operating levy increase we will be voting on February 8th. The proposal calls for an increase on our propery tax assessment of $.89 per $100 of assessed valuation. While that doesn't sound like a lot on the outset, the average home costing $200,000 will see an increase in taxes of over $300 annually. The question is, can residents afford the hike at this time? Your humble correspondent thinks property taxes are pretty steep now.

Rather than bore you with a long article, I'm opting to point out a few sites and articles to which other citizens have already made excellent comments. Between the articles and commentary, both sides of the argument are well represented. Only a short amount of time is required to read and make an informed decision.

From the reading I have done on this subject, the basic points and questions seem to be:

In a time when we are all having to tighten our belts, shouldn't the district be asked to find additional ways to cut expenses, even if it means that some programs currently funded by public money may have to be eliminated?
Should parents of public school students to pick up more of the tab for educating their own children in areas OTHER than core necessities?
The district is back at the trough and using language, again, to guilt trip and intimidate voters into complying with a tax hike at a time when the future of the economy is a major concern.
Why is the district spending so much money on an election at a time of historically low voter turnout?

Bust! Though we spent quite a bit of time looking for information on those running for city council in North Kansas City, we pretty much hit a brick wall. Hopefully those of you saddled with the task of voting for people who can't even seem to be bothered with an inexpensive website or a free Facebook page for the position they wish to hold will have better luck understanding who those folks are than we did. Our apologies for being no help to you.

Recently this issue has gained even more traction in the public mind and in the media with MSNBC's Chris Matthews shedding his own...er... unique light on it. Don't be discouraged by my bringing up Matthews. The video get's better as it goes along.

Sponsored by Rep. Lyle Rowland and others, HR283 simply requires that each established political party's candidates for the office of president and vice-president of the United States supply proof of identity and citizenship in writing to the Secretary of State. Doesn't really seem too much to ask. We have much to do in this country and not much time to do it. Distractions such as these are entirely avoidable. Let's do our part to make sure that they are, in fact, avoided.

Please take a second to contact your State Rep and let them know you support passage of this resolution. Here's a quick way to get them. The sanity you save may be your own.

What Jack Knows

Far-left Animal Rights Group Targets Missouri Legislature

The HSUS is at it again!

On January 5th the Missouri State Senate heard the first reading of Senate Bill 4 filed by Senator Bill Stouffer. SB 4 seeks to repeal the "Puppy Mill Cruelty and Prevention Act" which was narrowly passed by voters on November 2nd, 2010.

The act ,known as Prop B, barely passed with only 51.6% of the vote regardless of the millions of dollars spent by the Human Society of the United States (HSUS) and other far left groups in their efforts to mislead and guilt-trip Missourians into passing a bill that has no hope of helping reduce or eliminate puppy mill cruelty..

Only through the hard work of various citizen action groups and individuals, the truth about Prop B and it's potential effects on animal related business and farming began to permeate through the onslaught of deceptive pro-Prop B ads and articles resulting in a very close race. Along with the specifics of Prop B, the truth aboutthe motives of the HSUS also began to be realized by Missouri residents. Extensive evidence was disseminated through First Tuesday Press and can be accessed on our blog. (HSUS Part 1, HSUS Part 2) Please use this information to inform your Senator about the danger of the HSUS and their ilk gaining further footholds in Missouri.

The HSUS will be targeting our Missouri Senate on Wednesday, February 16 with their Missouri Humane Lobby Day.

Seeking to cement and eventually expand its influence, the HSUS will be lobbying our Senators in an attempt to block SB 4 from passage. Please contact your State Senator and ask him or her to be sure they fully understand Prop B AND the HSUS and their motives and press them for passage of SB 4.

Prop B - Part II: The Money Trail, The Players and Their Strategies

Details on What is in the Proposition and Why the Whole Thing is a Scam.

The so called ‘Humane’ Society of the United States is anything but ‘Humane’. It is deception and deception that abuses the emotions and VOTE of every kind hearted, animal loving citizen of Missouri. The Humane Society of the United States has pumped over $2 MILLION $$$ from sources outside Missouri into this ballot initiative Proposition B. They want this bad and the HSUS purposely targets States like Missouri that use the ballot initiative in order to bypass the legislature. It is much easier to use emotion to gather signatures on a petition and get their issues on the ballot. Wayne Pacelle, Pres. of HSUS, calls such initiatives targeting dog breeders, second tier or ‘low hanging fruit’. It will set the stage for his first tier agenda which includes ‘factory’ farming and an end to hunting.

Crazy? It is Pacelle’s own words. We'll get to that in a minute.

This PROP. is supposedly about shutting down ‘puppy mills’. It will do nothing of the sort. The Animal Care Facilities Act (ACFA) 1992 is the law on the books. The state of Missouri is grossly underfunded and understaffed. There are only 8-12 inspectors at any given time to inspect 1600+ breeding facilities and another 1200+ non breeding facilities. Where is the call for funding in Prop. B to inspect and enforce anything? There is NONE.

The HSUS has chosen Missouri because there is a real problem in our state with puppy mills. The criminals and abusers know where to set up shop. Why do they get away with their ugly business? Because there is no one to stop them! There is no funding for more inspectors and law enforcement to shut them down and drive them out of our State. That is the core of the problem with Proposition B. It is simply a lie. Putting economically unfeasible conditions on the licensed breeder will do NOTHING to change the puppy mill situation. I’m sure the unlicensed and illegal breeders will be jumping at the opportunity to add those over sized dog runs and get the HVAC people out asap to install those heating and cooling units called for in Prop. B. Yes, I’m sure those people will be all over it.

Remember in the first article, that Pacelle aspires for HSUS to be the NRA of the animal rights movement? Well, he certainly admires their power and influence since he made sure that hunting dogs are EXCLUDED from Prop. B? What? Hunting dogs can’t be abused? A little inconsistent don’t you think? No—it is because Pacelle has no intention of taking on the NRA. Remember, he wants the easy pickings and the NRA would have none of this nonsense.

Seriously, does this make sense? It is an IMMORAL and DECEITFUL attempt by HSUS to pretend this Prop actually addresses these abuses. Manpower and funding is what is needed and there is NONE in this Proposition.

Tell me why this issue is appropriate as a ballot initiative? For example, what does the ordinary person know about the heat cycles of a female dog? I’ve owned dogs all my life and have no clue. Why are Missourians voting on telling dog breeders how to operate their business? This should be an issue for the legislature which calls for hearings and testimony from those who DO know about the business. Having the HSUS and the ASPCA(Humane Societies little brother) bringing this to a vote is like the fox guarding the henhouse.

Do you see the connections? Do you see the logical leap?

If it is alright for direct voter initiatives to tell dog breeders what and how to breed their dogs, what will be next? Horses, cattle, sheep? Trust me, all those industries have long been in the HSUS sights. HSUS has already had their way with the Pork Industry in Florida and effectively shut it down. They have basically shut down the egg producers in California and like Rahm Emmanuel, they never let a ‘crisis’ go to waste. Egg prices in California have risen 60%. The recent salmonella scare provided great fodder for the HSUS propaganda. There are regulations on the books that need to be enforced---not added to.

Missourians are being used and the puppy mills will still be here long after the HSUS is through with us. What it does is put economically unfeasible restrictions on reputable dog breeders who already actually abide by the regulations. The bottom line is this: the Humane Society of the United States is a money making radical organization bent on changing the world to their vision. We will all be vegans and like it. We will not have ‘pets’ since that is a human creation and a form of slavery. We will not breed animals because that is akin to rape. Crazy, huh? Nope. That is exactly what the HSUS has in mind. This is PETA cleaned up; PETA in a suit; PETA working the system to its advantage.

Find out about the Humane Society of the United States. Ask why Wayne Pacelle brought over so many people from PETA when he became President in 2004. Ask why every HSUS staffer at the DC Headquarters is REQUIRED to be a VEGAN and no animal products are allowed including WOOL SUITS! Ask why they have $162 million in assets and yet do not operate a single animal shelter anywhere! Prop. B is a SCAM and so is the HSUS. VOTE NO!

As promised, I gathered the information on the money, the players and how Proposition B reads and what it hopes to accomplish. The one thing it won’t do is put puppy mills out of business.

The Money

Business is good at the HSUS! According to the 2008 IRS form 990, Pacelle earned $228,981 in compensation plus another $22,252 from ‘other’ compensation from HSUS and related organizations. The reportable compensation for the HSUS was $2,634,996.00. Total revenue from fundraising: $1,197,221.00 Investment Income plus royalties: $2,268,183! And over 4 million for pensions and benefits; in excess of $5 million for travel. $2 million for grants to lobbying purposes/$1Million for rallies, speeches, and lectures. Total net assets: $162,217.44 and yet not ONE SHELTER MAINTAINED IN THE UNITED STATES

Beginning on the day of NFL quarterback Michael Vick’s 2007 dogfighting indictment, HSUS raised money online with the false promise that it would “care for the dogs seized in the Michael Vick case.” The New York Times later reported that HSUS wasn’t caring for Vick’s dogs at all. And HSUS President Wayne Pacelle told the Times that his group urged government officials to “put down” (that is, kill) the dogs rather than adopt them out to suitable homes. HSUS later quietly altered its Internet fundraising pitch. Vick now gives HSUS “sponsored” speeches. And most of his dogs have been rehabilitated—without any help from HSUS.

If you sent money every month on the Wendy Malick ads, some animal somewhere might receive around $1 per year. What a great deal for animals! Tell me, if people who contribute when they see those ads knew, what would HSUS' income look like then?

Katrina brought HSUS $34 Million. Until the Louisiana Attorney General investigated HSUS for 18 months the HSUS had done NOTHING. After the investigation, the Attorney General determined that $7 million actually went to reuniting dogs and owners.

The Players

I related in Part I, I related how the animal rights movement is anti Judeo-Christian. They believe there is no hierarchy of creation; All creatures are on the same level and judged by whether they have the capacity to suffer. Wayne Pacelle, Pres. of HSUS is one smart, shrewd fellow. He knows the opposition and he fights hard and smart. In his most recent blog, he waxes poetic about St. Francis and the blessing of the animals that many churches observed October 2. If one knew nothing of the true nature of the animal ‘rights’ movement that would seem perfectly normal. However, knowing the truth about the HSUS, one would be hard pressed to believe that Pacelle has come 180 degrees and given up the animal ‘rights’ belief’s he has held dear for his entire adult life.

Wayne Pacelle is a strict vegan that converted to the animal ‘rights’ position after reading Peter Singers “animal liberation”. He worked for the anti hunting group Fund for Animals six years, then helped Paul Watson of the violent Sea Shepard Conservation. He assisted Alex Pacheco and PETA.

And from Wayne Pacelle again:
“Raising 10 billion land animals in the United States annually for food is simply not a sensible plan of action…the science is clear that a diet that is primarily plate based is better for our personal health, and it’s obviously better for animals and the environment.”

Pacelle has led efforts for passage of more than a dozen federal laws, 15 statewide ballot initiatives and countless state statutes. His stated objective is to be the NRA of animal rights---powerful, well connected and well funded.

According to Pacelle, dealing with puppy mills is on the second tier of campaigns. The first of his objectives if influencing policy makers and the media for a grassroots effort to get his goals passed.

His goals in order of preference are as follows:
“Factory Farming”
Felony penalties for animal cruelty
Revive the campaign against the fur industry
Stop ‘inhumane’ hunting.

Prop B is just a a step in the direction of his agenda. In regards to hunting, here are a few of Pacelles own words from an article written in the 90’s. “… hunters seem to be engaged in a unilateral arms race” and this about a goose slamming into the head of a hunter “…a rare instance of justice…”

Ominously, Wayne Pacelle was quoted in Blooties: Nature, Culture and the Hunt by Ted Kerasote, 1993 p.266 “If I had my personal view, perhaps that might take hold. In fact, I don’t want to see another dog or cat born.”

J.P. Goodwin of the Animal Liberation Front---arsonist and stated goal---the abolition of all animal agriculture. HSUS’s senior management includes a former spokesman for the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), a criminal group designated as “terrorists” by the FBI.

HSUS president Wayne Pacelle hired John “J.P.” Goodwin in 1997, the same year Goodwin described himself as “spokesperson for the ALF” while he fielded media calls in the wake of an ALF arson attack at a California veal processing plant. In 1997, when asked by reporters for a reaction to an ALF arson fire at a farmer’s feed co-op in Utah (which nearly killed a family sleeping on the premises), Goodwin replied, “We’re ecstatic.” That same year, Goodwin was arrested at a UC Davis protest celebrating the 10-year anniversary of an ALF arson at the university that caused $5 million in damage. “We found that civil disobedience and direct action has been powerful in generating massive attention in our communities…and has been very effective in traumatizing our targets.” National Animal Rights Convention June 1997 and “My goal is the abolition of all animal agriculture.”

LEGAL, LICENSED BREEDERS COULD HAVE NO MORE THAN 50 DOGS, REGARDLESS OF THE EXCELLENT CARE THEY RECEIVE WHILE ANYONE NOT BREEDING DOGS COULD HAVE UNLIMITED NUMBERS OF DOGS LIVING IN FILTHY CONDITIONS. PROP B CREATES THE FIRST STEP IN HSUS AND OTHER ANIMAL RIGHTS GROUPS DICTATING THE NUMBER OF ANIMALS ONE MAY OWN.

THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC BASIS FOR ELIMINATING TENDERFOOT FLOORINGWHICH ALLOWS FOR EASY CLEANING AND STERILIZING OF ENCLOSURES.

PROPOSITION B INTERFERES WITH THE WORKING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A BREEDER AND HIS OR HER VETERINARIAN ON THE HEALTH OF THEIR DOGS AND THE FREQUENCY OF BREEDING. THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE WOULD BE CHARGED WITH DETERMINING THE BREEDING FREQUENCY OF DOGS IN LICENSED FACILITIES.

HSUS HAS INTRODUCED PROP B AS A MEANS OF ELIMINATING THE LEGAL, LICENSED PROFESSIONAL DOG BREEDERS IN MISSOURI. ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, NO CURRENT LICENSED BREEDER CAN COMPLY WITH THE REGULATIONS PUT FORTH IN PROP B, NO MATTER HOW CLEAN AND WELL RUN THE FACILITY. COST PROHIBITIVE SPACE REQUIREMENTS COUPLED WITH MISDEMEANOR CRIMES FOR THE MOST MINOR OF ISSUES WILL ELIMINATE THE LEGALINDUSTRY IN OUR STATE.

ONLY UNLICENSED, SUBSTANDARD BREEDERS WILL BE LEFT TO PRODUCE PUPPIES WHILE CONTINUING TO HIDE FROM STATE LAWS.

The result? 50 nations shut their doors to US beef ignoring the fact that cattle are often transported long distances as a direct result of the closure of local slaughterhouses.

HSUS raised lots of money, sadly, on a problem they appear to have helped create. Ditto for the battles over horse slaughter. HSUS believes that this option for horse owners should not exist. In Nebraska, the Farm Bureau donated hay to feed neglected horses that had been transferred from the BLM to private ownership, another HSUS campaign gone awry. But listen to Pacelle complain that cowboys didn't want to work with HSUS when it organized a photo op with the neglected horses as props. Attacks on feral horse control and horsemeat, combined with closure of slaughter facilities (resulting in longer transport times for horses), appears to be tied to an increase in abandoned horses. This has overtaxed the safety net of humane shelters set up by responsible animal owners. HSUS uses this sad state, which they helped create, as one more opportunity to raise more money and while little goes to hands-on animal care and much goes to promoting policies that exacerbate the problem. No wonder the cowboys are angry! Perhaps it's time for HSUS to spend some of its $200 million in reserves on actually caring for horses and other animals in distress.

A shocking report in the American Sporting Dog Alliance

WASHINGTON - The Humane Society of the United States is asking President Barack Obama and Congress to require everyone who raises dogs and cats to be regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, documents show. HSUS also is asking for the creation of an animal protection division within the U.S. Department of Justice that is "similar to the Civil Rights Division, to ensure strong enforcement of federal animal protection laws," thus granting animals rights similar to humans. HSUS also calls for a new position of animal protection liaison in the White House.

A fourth provision calls for a ban on hunting on new public lands. Those are only three of the 100 recommendations that HSUS has sent to Obama in what is called a "change agenda for animals." The American Sporting Dog Alliance has obtained access to this document, which has been sent to animal protection organizations asking for their support. HSUS is a radical animal rights group. Despite its name, it does not operate a single animal shelter, but exists only as a political organization. The long-range goal of HSUS is to gradually eliminate all animal ownership and use, including their use as companion and food20animals, and to ban hunting. The 100 goals sent to Obama reflect many issues, but this report will concentrate on the issues that most directly affect dog owners, with added emphasis on the sporting breeds.
However, we urge our readers to read the full HSUS document, which includes a crackdown on alleged farm pollution, tough animal and poultry husbandry and slaughter rules, and many environmental and wildlife management measure. The link to the actual document used to be found at

In a letter to a New York horse owners' association that was made available to the American Sporting Dog Alliance, HSUS President Wayne Pacelle asks for support of the 100-point agenda."With the changing of the guard at the White House comes the prospect of new possibilities for moving our goals forward, and to mark his latest transfer of power, the HSUS and the Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF) are advancing a 100-point 'Change Agenda for Animals,'" Pacelle wrote. " Never before has the animal protection movement so carefully articulated a vast array of critical animal protection reforms in the domains of so many federal agencies-Agriculture , Interior, Commerce, Defense, Health and Human Services, State, and others."

Butting heads with the National Rifle Association (NRA) and Safari Club International (SCI) were groups like the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Fund for Animals, along with local animal-protection groups, some headed by hunting advocates. "The last election saw more signature-driven initiatives on state ballots than ever before," says David Sostman of HSUS. "And 1998 promises to bring even more."
Among those leading the initiative fight was HSUS' Wayne Pacelle who, since 1990, has organized 10 statewide ballot initiatives, nine of which have won.

Winning initiatives (in Massachusetts, Colorado, Alaska, Oregon and Washington) included banning bear, cougar, bobcat or lynx hunting by use of baiting or hounding; eliminating bear hunting season in the spring when mothers emerge with newborn cubs; banning steel-jaw traps and body-snaring traps; aerial tracking and hunting of wolves, lynx, foxes and wolverines; and eliminating the requirement that hunters or trappers hold a majority of seats on state wildlife and fisheries boards. - by John Yates

And lastly, if this has not convinced you that the Humane Society of the United States is not a radical animal ‘rights’ group, then do your own research. I feel like I’ve been in the belly of the beast, but I will not be fooled again. I will only contribute to local shelters that always seem to be struggling, no thanks to that great, wealthy bunch, the HSUS.
I will find out from here on out the how’s and who’s of what is on our ballot. It makes me question the wisdom of ballot initiatives. It bypasses our ‘republic’ governance and goes to direct democracy. That makes it imperative to know the motives and background of those behind any ballot initiative.

Fun With Fascism!

As you are probably aware, phase out of incandescent light bulbs starts in 2012. Yep, that's right. The tried and true, good old fashioned, flay your flesh off, American as apple pie standard light bulb will be no more very soon. In fact, the last incandescent factory in the US closed down just a few weeks ago.

Most commonly taking the place of our warmly glowing little friends will be the sterile, efficient, and really expensive CFL. These mercury-laden, made in China "gems" will soon be uglyfying your gorgeous and also very expensive lighting fixtures sooner that you can blink. The "light" emitted by those little monsters make you look like you're having the worst day of your life no matter how much sleep you got last night AND ought to be sold with a Tyvek suit and a respirator in case you break one.

What to do?

Bush and promoted by Queen Nancy as a way to lower energy costs. One wonders why she turned around and jammed Cap and Trade through the House if she was so worried about our energy costs. Funny that...

Egg Suckin Dogs

A group of egg suckin dogs has made their way into our old glory Mizzou. These dirty dogs are called animal rights extremists. They are after our licensed professional kennels and next they will be after our livestock. They have a whackadoo psycho agenda in mind for you folks out there in the land of Mizzou. The top of their hidden agenda is to take away your right to eat meat. They are a clever pack and have pulled and tugged at the heart strings of many generations of Americans. They have put little helpless puppies up on your television screens in order to get into your wallets. They made the promise to control the pet populations with spay and neuter. Your generosity of charitable donations would be used to make that happen. Do you really know where your hard earned money went?

You may now only own one crossbred dog. You dog must receive a full comprehensive wellness exam each year by a licensed veterinarian. Your home will be inspected. The dog must have a room the size of your bedroom and large outdoor pen to exercise. Your dog must have unfettered access to the outdoors which means it has to be able to go in and out at anytime on its on free will. The dog must have all its vaccinations, be spayed or neutered, licensed and you yourself will have to maintain a federal and state license. If you do not comply with these mandates, you will be arrested and could face a large monetary penalty and criminal charges. The voters of Missouri decided this on your behalf. How do you feel?

As a veterinarian, I feel outrage concerning Missouri Proposition B that is aimed at our licensed kennels. My associate Dr. Debra Mayes and I have been kennel veterinarians for over nineteen years. Our clients are licensed both federally and through the state. They are inspected annually by a federal inspector, state inspector, an inspector from The American Kennel Association, and by us. The operate under a set of rules and regulations set by The United States Department of Agriculture. These are the folks that actually know something about animal husbandry. They follow our recommended health program. Many of our clients are married couples with children. Their dogs have names and they are loved. The children work in the kennels with their parents and there are also those that hire outside help. Our kennels continually invest money to upgrade their facilities. They also invest money in the community. These are the families that save for their kids college education.

Our clients are being portrayed as monsters. These are the people who have taught me more about dogs than what I learned in vet school. These are the people that cry when we have to put their dog to sleep and have special places to bury them. At risk here is the livelihood of families and of our communities. Their children are the ones who go on to become veterinarians. Would you rather have them treat your dog or someone who watched the television show Animal Planet?

Proposition B would limit each kennel to no more than fifty dogs. Each dog would have a large room inside and a large pen on the outside with what they call "unfettered access." This means a dog must be able to come and go freely. The dogs must be on a solid surface. Thre are other lengthy mandates to this proposition. The ones mentioned are what we feel are the point to the arrow. The size requirement would require nearly ever kennel in this state to either gut or rebuild. The unfettered access would allow a pregnant female to walk outside on a winter night and have her pups in zero weather. Pupsicles! A solid surface means that a dog could urinate on itself and also walk in its own stool. A female could also contaminate a nursing pup with fecal material. We feel that the mandates are not financially feasible and we feel that there is a purpose behind it. The red flag here is that The Humane Society, shelters, rescues and catteries are immune from this proposition. These entities go through far more dogs than our kennels and they aren't a part of their own mandates?

Proposition B has been condemned by many individuals and organizations including: The Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, The Farm Bureau, and The American Kennel Club. They all know that the mandates are unfair to the kennel owners and the dogs. As a veterinarian, if I personally prescribed these changes, I would be guilty of malpractice. I personally believe along with many that this is purposely being done to end purebred dog breeding in this state and across America. They have attempted this in other states and it eventually ended in a battle with our livestock farmers.

Prop B will kill our economy. There are over 1400 licensed kennels. This would cause unemployment for thousands. It will also lead to the senseless euthanasia of thousands of kennel dogs to make the kennels comply to the fifty dog limit. It sickens me to think that we have a Prop B to free dogs when we have many kids trapped in horrible situations like meth labs. Our moral compass is off. We've forgotten the "human" part of humane. VOTE NO on Prop. B. The Humane Society of the United States has pumped $450,000 plus another million from sources outside Missouri into this ballot initiative. They want this bad and the HSUS purposely targets states that use the ballot initiative in order to bypass the legislature. It is much easier to use emotion to gather signatures on a petition to get on the ballot. Wayne Pacelle, Pres. of HSUS, calls such initiatives, second tier or ‘low hanging fruit’. It will set the stage for his first tier agenda which includes ‘factory’ farming and an end to hunting.

Crazy? It is Pacelle’s own words. This bill is supposedly about shutting down ‘puppy mills’. It will do nothing of the sort. The Animal Care Facilities Act (ACFA) 1992 is the law on the books. The state of Missouri is grossly underfunded and understaffed. There are only 8-12 inspectors at any given time to inspect 1600+ breeding facilities and another 1200+ non breeding facilities. Where is the call for funding in Prop. B to inspect and enforce anything? There is NONE.

Missourians are being used and the puppy mills will still be here long after the HSUS is through with us. If they can put reputable dog breeders out of business that is just one step closer to their first tier agenda. Find out about the Humane Society of the United States. Ask why Wayne Pacelle brought over so many people from PETA when he became President in 2004. Ask why every HSUS staffer at the D.C. Headquarters is REQUIRED to be a VEGAN and no animal products are allowed including WOOL SUITS! Ask why they have $162 million in assets and yet do not operate a single animal shelter anywhere!

Prop. B is a SCAM and so is the HSUS. VOTE NO!

As we are all aware (sometimes painfully) November 2nd fast approaches and we'll all be heading to the voting booth once again. Oftentimes people get to their polling place to find measures and initiatives on their ballot that they've never even heard of, been misinformed on, or are still undecided about. In an effort to help with this vexing problem we're kicking off First Tuesday Press with an article series describing the various ballot measures Missouirans will face.

We've chosen what may be the least understood and most controversial measure first.

What is most odious and revealing about Sunstein's worldview is his condescending, self-loving belief that "false conspiracy theories" are largely the province of fringe, ignorant Internet masses and the Muslim world. That, he claims, is where these conspiracy theories thrive most vibrantly, and he focuses on various 9/11 theories -- both domestically and in Muslim countries -- as his prime example.http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/01/15/sunstein

The Connections seem complex at first, however, as you study the issues and discover the common worldview of these people and their advocates, everything makes "sense". It is our duty to understand this thinking and ultimately flawed logic in order to defeat it. This worldview envelopes Progressives, the Animal Rights movement and a wealth of other groups and organizations in our world today. To allow these people to fulfill the 'logical' conclusions of their ideology would be devastating to civilization in its outcomes.

As to the issue at hand, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is an animal RIGHTS organization behind the Missouri ballot initiative known as Proposition B---the puppy mill initiative. Why, who would be opposed to saving the puppies, you ask? Well, not me-----if I believed for one second Prop B was really about the welfare of dogs. Problem: this is NOT about animal welfare at all! This is about ultimately controlling the agriculture industry and once again, limiting the freedoms of the citizens of this State and this country.

You think that is quite a leap in rational deduction? You think I'm one of those fringe conspirators that Cass Sunstein talks about and wants to control?

The animal rights' WORLDVIEW is bizarre and very dangerous. Let me explain and you will learn how something so seemingly innocent as Proposition B is just another insidious effort to once again dilute and destroy our God given freedoms.

That is the crux of the whole issue. God. The Animal Rights movement and their worldview is an atheistic, Darwinist approach to the world and in direct opposition to the Judeo Christian worldview; a worldview that is under assault on nearly every issue facing us today. First, let me give a little background of the HSUS.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) began as an animal WELFARE group in 1954. By the 70's, the animal RIGHTS people began to take over and by the 80's, the transformation was complete. John McArdle of the HSUS stressed at their 1984 convention, that members "should avoid the words "animal rights" and "....claim that your only concern is the animals." The HSUS assimilated activists from PETA and in a memo to his staff upon taking over as President in 2005, Wayne Pacelle stated that their new focus would be on "farm animals". As of today, all HSUS staffers are required to be VEGANS and no animal products are allowed at the HSUS headquarters, including wool suits.

As far as bringing in the extremists from other fringe animal "rights" organizations in addition to PETA, Pacelle said, "I was trying to find people who have the energy, the passions and the smarts to effect major changes in PUBLIC and CORPORATE policies when it comes to animal agriculture. Whether it is Safeway or McDonalds, their decision in terms of the the products they purchase will have enormous implications for animals." Pacelle also states that he wants to be the NRA of the animal rights movement in terms of power, influence and organization.

Now, let's look at the distinction between the animal RIGHTS worldview and the animal WELFARE worldview. Animal WELFARE is the Judeo-Christian worldview. Humans are stewards of God's creation. There is a distinct hierarchy of creation as taught in the Bible and as evidenced by nature and all of human history.

Not so for the animal RIGHTS worldview. Theirs is an ANTI Judeo Christian worldview that holds a "utilitarian" view of the rights of animals and is clearly stated in Peter Singer's works. Remember, Peter Singer? He is the avowed and admired founder of the Animal Rights movement as credited by current President and CEO of HSUS, Wayne Pacelle. These people argue and believe that there is no hierarchy of creation, thus the rights of animals are equivalent to the rights of mankind. They argue that to think otherwise, one is guilty of speciesism-- something akin to racism or sexism. It is not the capacity for reasoning , but the creature's ".... capacity for suffering (that) is the characteristic that gives a being the right to equal consideration". The philosophy flows from Darwinism and Singer happily says that humans are just big apes.

"Singer argues that Christianity arbitrarily separated man and animal, placing human life on a a pedestal and consigning the animals to the status of tools for human well-being. Now, Singer says, we must remove Homo sapiens from this privileged position and restore the natural order."

Since the basis for equal rights is the capacity for suffering, Singer argues for experimentation on "...human infants---orphans perhaps---or retarded human beings for experiments, rather than adults, since infants and retarded human beings would have no idea of what was going to happen to them." (From "The Animal Liberation Movement" by Peter Singer). He also believes that infants can be disposed of within 28 days of birth (his number) if they prove to be defective or deemed not to have a future of usefulness in later life.

You can see how this world view is at odds with Christianity. This is the "culture of death" that Pope John Paul II referred to. There is no real concern for animal life among the animal RIGHTS people, either. Read their own words:

"Note that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is not affiliated with, nor is it a parent organization for, local humane societies, animal shelters, or animal care and control agencies. These are independent organizations, governed by their own bylaws and boards of directors (in the case of humane societies), or local ordinances and officials (in the case of animal care and control agencies). The HSUS does not operate or have direct control over any animal shelter." (From the HSUS website under the obscure subject of the migratory bird treaty act (!?)

Well, what do they do with the $162 million in 2008 declared assets? Excellent question. I"ll cover that in Part 2. For now, the point is this: if one subscribes to such a worldview as the animal rights people, how then can you argue with them? You cannot. The only course of action is to fight their efforts every step of the way. They are liars and manipulators, preying on the good impulses of ordinary people. It is NEVER for the issue at hand, but for the grand picture that will fulfill THEIR worldview. We must declare such people our enemies and not be deceived.

That is why we must VOTE NO ON
PROPOSITION B in Missouri.
